Kent Stock
Kent Stock remembers reading about Norway baseball as a kid. After playing in high school and college he accepts a teaching position in nearby Belle Plain, Iowa. But a chance meeting with Coach Jim Van Scoyoc earns him the opportunity of a lifetime- to be the assistant baseball coach for the Norway Tigers. Timing infield drills, hitting fungos and the state championship game, it's the best summer of his life.
As the 1990-91 school year begins, Kent moves to St. Louis and starts a new career as a banker. But rumors are turning into reality back in Norway, state regulations are threatening to close the high school. When Coach Van Scoyoc is denied the coaching position for Norway's final season, Kent Stock is asked to fill his shoes.
With only one season's coaching experience, Coach Stock accepts the challenge by earning the respect of his players and encouraging them to play the game right. It's up to Coach Stock to prove to the team and to the town of Norway that the Tigers can win a 20th and final state title.
